Spring/Summer 2019 is the debut collection of Nicola Glass, the new creative director of Kate Spade New York.
The show took place at an iconic venue: the New York Public Library, and set the tone for a new code for the brand, with a wise compromise of its roots.
The collection shows a contemporary and playful use of colour and great attention to detail. It is a sophisticated design that pays homage to the brand's beginnings: the original spade symbol, for example, is artfully reimagined and woven together to shape the new Dorie bucket bag.
This is also the first collection after the tragic loss of Kate Spade, the founder of the brand. She was remembered in the show notes with these words: "She left a little sparkle everywhere she went".
