During London Fashion Week I had the pleasure to attend the MARRKNULL SS19 Presentation. The Beijing based brand has been co-founded by Wang Wei and Shi Tian in 2016 and it often uses the Chinese culture as a source of inspiration, describing the contradictions of its modern social system.
Having previously showcased this same collection as part of the VFILES Fashion Show during New York Fashion Week, I was pretty curious about this young brand. The collection was inspired by the concept of a "scenic spot", a place where Chinese tourists usually gather to take pictures and selfies while surrounded by the beauty of the background.
That's why almost all the models were showing off their mobiles and selfie sticks.
Fun fact: while I was drawing this sketch during the MARRKNULL presentation, I was approached by the French family of the model I was portraying. This was the first gig of the model who was scouted while visiting London during a weekend trip, needless to say, the family was more than excited. I found this quite funny and sweet at the same time!
