“This is a collection about my background, about my heritage, about being Black Caribbean. I used distortion, things that curved, and always a play with gender, and how we see masculine clothes."
In the casting call for her Autumn/Winter 2020 show, Bianca Saunders stated models should be feeling comfortable with dancing: I stepped into the Discovery Lab with anticipation, looking forward to discovering her new offering.
Models were indeed dancing, each one in their own booth, at their own rhythm, and although this made my sketching task a bit harder, I was delighted for such a beautiful show and collection.
The inspiration for the collection and the show itself, came from VHS recordings of dancehall parties, filtered through the unconventional vision of menswear that Bianca Saunders has been exploring since the beginning of her successful career.
For the very first time, the designer incorporates accessories in her collections, including bags and scarves and footwear in collaboration with Hernan Guardamagna.
This sketch, created during the show, is part of my London Fashion Week AW20 live illustrated coverage for L'Officiel Hommes Italia.
