THE JW ANDERSON CARDIGAN

Updated: Jul 9, 2021

The JW Anderson cardigan styled by Harry Styles is now part of the permanent collection of the V&A

Internet is no stranger to fashion viral moments, but recently this JW Anderson unique cardigan has become a true sensation among TikTokers sparkling the interest of its designer, Jonathan Anderson. Further corroboration of this phenomenon came when the Victoria&Albert Museum decided to include the cardigan as part of its permanent collection.

If you are wondering how this was possible, there's another relevant piece to add to this fashionable puzzle. In February 2020 music star Harry Styles wore the JW Anderson cardigan during the rehearsal for an American tv show, instantly triggering the interest of his fans.

Content creator Liv Huffman showed first how to crochet this intricate patchwork cardigan on TikTok and since then Harry Styles' fans began to make and share their own version of the garment, resulting in a true viral trend.

While fashion media started to notice the phenomenon, also Jonathan Anderson, JW Anderson founder and creative director, was much impressed by its extent and decided to release the pattern to the cardigan so that everyone could recreate it: “I am so impressed and incredibly humbled by this trend and everyone knitting the cardigan. I really wanted to show our appreciation so we are sharing the pattern with everyone. Keep it up!”.

The JW Anderson cardigan is now part of the permanent collection of the Victoria&Albert Museum, forever sealing the value of this fashion moment and that's also where I was able to sketch it during my last visit.
